A Short Introduction: Welcome to the Nomad Adventures Almanac

Eagle Nest, NM

Time is Money.

What a terrible phrase.

We learn the importance of money early on. It's practically the theme of American Society. It's a necessity; your very survival depends upon it. We're supposed to find a job and spend our time earning money because... that's just what you're supposed to do. Before you know it, you've settled into a routine. Each week passes by before you can catch your breath which seems strange, because as you sit in your office, staring at a screen, time seems idle. As those weeks passed, how many times did you look back and think "I wish I'd spent more time at the office"? What if, instead of working 40 (or 60... or 80) hours a week to buy a house, a car, and a 70" TV, there was another way? I think there is, and that's what I plan to explore.

I think there are many more people out there like you and I, who can't seem to make peace with the nine to five (or in my case the four to three). People who are tired of the rat race; who want to slow down and spend our time in exchange for memories instead of possessions. People who find our value in relationships and experiences. People like you are the reason I am writing this in the first place. I want to inspire you to reclaim your time and use it in a more fulfilling way.

I also hope that I can inspire you to spend more of your reclaimed time in nature, as I plan to do. We have a connection to nature that is important to preserve. Throughout 99% of human history it was our home and provider, but today we often ask more of nature than we should, and much of what it provides goes unnoticed or under appreciated. We should spend more time learning to appreciate the beauty and bounty of nature, so that we might not take so much and give a little more.

Through the medium of nature with a touch of minimalism, my goal is to inspire you through my adventures, teach you through my mistakes, and entertain you with stories of botched homemade gear and times I had the map upside down, as we make an attempt to live our lives more simply. Here in the Almanac, you'll find everything from gear and trail reviews to the steps I'm taking to scale back personal possessions and consumption. If I've piqued your interest I hope you'll follow along as I plan to make the transition from the life of your typical American consumer to one of eventful liberation!
